The Position
Park Ranger Technicians perform grounds and facility maintenance, custodial duties, fee collection, report writing, visitor services, and assist in the operation and maintenance of a State park.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. The Nevada Division of State Parks is recruiting for a Park Ranger Technician (PRT) III at the Walker River State Recreation Area near Yerington Nevada. The park includes the Pitchfork, Rafter 7, Flying M and 9 Mile Units.
This position works under the direct supervision of the Park Ranger II in all aspects of park operations including, but not limited to, custodial services, grounds maintenance, fee collection, visitor services, visitor and public safety, resource management, interpretation, accounting, and record keeping. Typical duties include: clean and maintain park buildings/grounds, collect fees, respond to visitor inquiries, prepare reports, handle correspondence, manipulate computer spreadsheets, and develop and present interpretive programs. Grounds maintenance will require the use of heavy equipment. Additional duties of this position are to train, supervise and evaluate the performance of personnel and volunteers as assigned. Non-commissioned law enforcement duties include: patrol of park areas, note violations, advise visitors of park rules and regulations, and provide emergency assistance or medical aid as appropriate. Incumbents will be required to work varying hours and shifts including holidays, weekends, and evenings, and may be subject to call-back for response to incidents, injuries, and maintenance emergencies. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Park housing is available. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of increasingly responsible experience in a park, zoo, museum, interpretive visitor center or closely related setting which included customer service, managing or collecting receipts or money, grounds and facility maintenance and custodial duties; OR one year of experience as a Park Ranger Technician II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
