The Position
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. This Psychiatric Nurse II (PN II) position is located within the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) of Health and Human Services (DHHS) - Desert Regional Center (DRC) in Las Vegas. ADSD provides an atmosphere of innovative thinking, teamwork, and friendly co-workers. The mission of the ADSD is to provide leadership and advocacy in the planning, development and delivery of high quality, comprehensive support service system across the lifespan to allow all of Nevada's elders, children and adults with disabilities or special health care needs, to live independent, meaningful and dignified lives to the greatest extent possible. Incumbents maintain the health, safety, and well-being of individuals and are responsible for the medical coordination of care, of health services and treatment. Additionally, this position collaborates with professional and paraprofessional staff to ensure optimum patient care and safety; carries out therapeutic procedures which provide for the emotional and physical comfort of patients; identifies patient health care needs utilizing professional nursing skills; administers treatments and medications per physician's orders; makes comprehensive clinical observations and assessments for the evaluation of health needs; monitors for medication side effects and/or allergic reaction and effectiveness; provides emergency medical treatment such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of AED and must make assessments, choices, determinations and judgments in all aspects of their work. The incumbent will advocate on behalf of the individuals served to have the best possible health and assist them in achieving their personal outcomes.
Incumbents must establish and maintain good rapport and working relationships to foster intra and interdepartmental communications necessary for the delivery of quality care. The PN II will follow NRS/NAC 632, Nursing rules and regulations as well as DHHS, ADSD, DRC policies and procedures and Medicaid and CMS regulations for ICF/ID facilities. **Please ensure your application reflects your current nursing license information. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR one year of experience as a Psychiatric Nurse I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
    Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of continuing employment.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
    CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
