The Position
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action. Aging & Disability Services Division (ADSD), Desert Regional Center (DRC) has a vacancy for Psychiatric Nurse (PN) 3 located in Las Vegas. The mission of the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) is to provide leadership and advocacy in the planning, development and delivery of a high quality, comprehensive support service system across the lifespan to allow all of Nevada's children, adults and elders with disabilities or special health care needs, to live independent, meaningful and dignified lives to the greatest extent possible.
This is a very rewarding and specialized field of nursing working with individuals with Intellectual Disabilities and Developmental Disability. This position is responsible for the supervision of the Quality Assurance Unit's nursing staff. Incumbents participate in the overall quality assurance and performance improvement activities for Community Services, as well as the Intermediate Care Facility (ICF/IID) programs. This includes participation in the quality oversight of contracted community providers, conducting and participating in the environmental reviews of supported living arrangements and the ICF/IID, conducting investigations of allegations of abuse, neglect and exploitation, reviewing quality documents. This position also provides nursing case management services to individuals supported by the agency. This position requires working a flexible schedule including some weekends. **Please ensure your application reflects your current nursing license information. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and three years of professional nursing experience, two of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR one year of experience as a Psychiatric Nurse II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    A bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
    Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of continuing employment.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
