The Position
Electronic Technician's perform work requiring the application of electronic principles and practices involving the installation, maintenance, calibration, repair, programming and modification of a variety of electronic and computerized equipment.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action OR Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. This position is located in Lovelock, approximately 100 miles east of Reno. The Electronics Technician is responsible for maintaining all low voltage controls, staff and inmate phone systems, fire suppression system, as well as other electronics project pertaining to Lovelock Correction Center, Humboldt Conservation Camp and Carlin Conservation Camp. Travel up to 25% may be required. The incumbent must be willing to work at these locations and must be willing to supervise inmate workers.
In a correctional environment, Electronics Technician 3's lead an inmate crew and install, assemble, adjust, clean, calibrate, program and repair programmable logic controllers, fire warning/alarm systems, teleconferencing equipment, computerized escape convict alarm systems, personal objects X-ray screening machines and door, gate and telephone security alarm systems. Many of the systems are antiquated and require knowledge of previous operating systems and their anomalies. Inmate performance is documented through completion of periodic progress reports. Incumbents are responsible for implementing security procedures to include securing the work area from unauthorized inmates and accountability for assigned inmates, staff, tools and equipment. The incumbent must either possess or be able to pass the test to receive the 'F' and 'G' certifications with the State Fire Marshall within the first six (6) months of employment. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Associate's degree in electronics or closely related field from an accredited college or technical school and three years of related experience performing electronic technician work involving the installation, maintenance, calibration, repair and modification of a variety of electrical and computerized equipment; OR one year as an Electronics Technician II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    This position requires passing a non-custody correctional training course.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    This position requires the ability to lift 40 pounds overhead.
Additional Position Criteria
    The incumbent must either possess or be able to pass the test to receive the 'F' and 'G' certifications with the State Fire Marshall within the first six (6) months of employment.
