The Position
Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) State Coordinator is specifically charged with being a link between Federal, State, and local governments. The NFIP State Coordinator stays current on NFIP issues and can advise communities on specific provisions and any State requirements. The incumbent will oversee and manage the State Floodplain Management Program that includes the Community Assistance Program - (CAP) and the Cooperating Technical Partner's (CTP) Program; supervise support staff; participate in the Nevada Resilience Advisory Committee and Preliminary Disaster Assessment Team; assist FEMA in response and recovery, damage assessment, and training and education activities incident to federally declared flood disaster events; provide general technical assistance through coordination and assistance to NFIP communities and the general public as needed; develop and disseminate public awareness information in the form of semi-annual newsletters, brochures, and public awareness displays at community events; and attend and provide training and education activities to increase knowledge of floodplain management, watershed planning, disaster response, and FEMA Region 9 programs. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or closely related engineering field and two years of professional engineering experience; OR Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern, and two years of professional engineering experience in civil engineering or closely related engineering field; OR two years of experience as a Staff I, Associate Engineer or Supervisor I, Associate Engineer in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
