Accountants are responsible for preparing financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the standards of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is located within the Accounting Division of the Department of Transportation in Carson City. Incumbent is responsible for supervising of the accounts payable and travel sections; providing accounts payable certifications by reviewing and comparing reports on a daily basis and reporting and identifying any discrepancies; reconciling cash, receipts, deposits; conducting yearly payroll audits; preparing financial statements and supporting schedules at year end according to pre-set guidelines; and adhering to established policies and procedures. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting and one year of experience performing professional accounting work; OR a bachelor's degree in business administration, finance or related field which included 18 credits in accounting and two years of experience performing professional accounting work; OR one year of experience as an Accountant I in Nevada State service and 18 college credits in accounting.
The required 18 college credits in accounting must include 6 credits of beginning accounting, 6 credits of intermediate accounting, and 6 credits of upper-division accounting courses.

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Transcripts of college credits are required.
Additional Position Criteria
Experience with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAA) is required.
Reconciliation experience is required.
