Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. The Bureau of Waste Management Solid Waste Branch is recruiting for an Environmental Scientist 1 (underfill for an Environmental Scientist 3). The successful incumbent will read, understand and interpret regulatory language; work independently in the field and office environments; communicate effectively with the general public, the regulated community, stakeholders and DEP administration and prepare written reports and technical documents. The incumbent will develop, conduct, coordinate, and present a variety of outreach programs relating to sustainability to individuals and/or groups of people in a variety of community settings which may include schools, civic and senior centers, and other meeting facilities; coordinate sustainability activities among various groups; assist in outreach efforts with NDEP, other agencies, local service groups and special interest groups to identify potential sustainability efforts; research challenges relating to developing sustainability programs; develop, create and analyze needs assessments, surveys and evaluations to determine community attitudes and the target population needing education in sustainability efforts; participate in community groups, professional organizations and agency meetings.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and two years of technical environmental experience which involved assisting in environmental program research and planning; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |

This position requires to travel up to 50% of the time. |
