The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
The Bureau of Waste Management Solid Waste Branch is recruiting for an Environmental Scientist 3. The successful incumbent will read, understand and interpret regulatory language; work independently in the field and office environments; communicate effectively with the general public, the regulated community, stakeholders and NDEP administration and prepare written reports and technical documents. The incumbent will develop, conduct, coordinate, and present a variety of outreach programs relating to sustainability to individuals and/or groups of people in a variety of community settings which may include schools, civic and senior centers, and other meeting facilities; coordinate sustainability activities among various groups; assist in outreach efforts with NDEP, other agencies, local service groups and special interest groups to identify potential sustainability efforts; research challenges relating to developing sustainability programs; develop, create and analyze needs assessments, surveys and evaluations to determine community attitudes and the target population needing education in sustainability efforts; participate in community groups, professional organizations and agency meetings. Candidates who are self-motivated, have a positive attitude and are willing to work as a team member within the Bureau of Sustainable Materials Management are encouraged to apply.
The position requires being in the field up to 50% of the time. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and three years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research and planning; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and five years of professional environmental experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
This position requires 50% travel.
