The Position
Custodial Workers perform general cleaning services to State facilities using various cleaning equipment and materials to provide a safe, hygienic and orderly work environment.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Custodial Worker 1 position is located with Northern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services in Sparks. Duties to include performing various tasks related to restroom maintenance; clean and disinfect patient rooms, seclusion rooms, medication rooms, nursing stations, conference rooms, utility rooms, office areas, and various areas related to in-patient and out-patient care; maintain carpets, hard floors, walls, windows, vents, light fixtures and touchable surfaces in a clean and sanitary condition; and empty trash receptacles, clean trash receptacles, and transport hazardous waste to staging areas. Custodial workers are required to perform snow shoveling, spread ice melt and or sand, clean entrance and exit ways, assist in moving furniture and as requested by supervisor assist the grounds department, maintenance department and laundry worker position. Work schedules range from 6:00am to 10:30 pm and include working weekends and holidays depending on the needs of the agency. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and six months of custodial or janitorial experience in a commercial, industrial, hospital, governmental or similar environment; OR six months of general work experience and six months of custodial or janitorial experience in a commercial industrial, hospital, governmental or similar environment; OR six months of experience as a Custodial Worker Trainee in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
