The Position
Correctional Officers maintain and supervise offenders in State correctional facilities in a controlled humane environment. This position may be at a Maximum-Security Prison.
This IS NOT a "traditional" Sr. Correctional Officer position. Incumbents are responsible for the development, evaluation and delivery of training curriculum and programs.
The position involves the development, design and implementation of training schedules; development and implementation of an evaluation process for students and trainees; development and conduct of training needs assessment tools and programs; review, evaluation, updating and personalizing of lesson plans.
Applicants must have Basic Instructor Development (BID) certificate.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
One year of journey level experience as a correctional officer in an adult correctional institution which included certification as a peace officer under P.O.S.T. or its equivalent; OR one year of experience as a Correctional Officer in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
Applicants must meet current Peace Officer Standards Training (POST-Category 3) requirements including the physical agility testing as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code.
Applicants must pass a strict annual physical examination in accordance with Nevada State Prisons Standards and to meet requirements of the provisions of the Heart/Lung Bills.
An Associate's Degree in corrections, criminal justice, or a closely related field may be substituted for six months of the required journey level experience.
Special Requirements
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
