The Position
Agriculturists perform a variety of inspections and enforcement duties related to regulated agricultural programs such as seed testing and seed certification, commercial pest control licensing, commercial nursery inspection and licensing, vertebrate pest control, noxious weeds, insect and plant disease quarantine surveys, and commercial feed and agricultural product grading.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This is an Agriculturist 3 position located in Elko, NV. The incumbent will assist with the on-going development, promotion, training, and data management of the Rangeland Monitoring Application used by ranchers and land managers throughout the state. Incumbent will also collaborate with local, state, and federal partners in facilitating educational events and presentations to constituents during large scale or one-on-one training events with producers related to rangeland monitoring and health. In addition, the incumbent will work with private land owners and permittees on grazing management and cooperative monitoring. The incumbent will focus on activities related to rangeland restoration/health, noxious weed identification and control, target grazing, biological controls, weed free forage and gravel inspections, and other plant industry program tasks as needed. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in agricultural science or related field and two years of journey level experience in a variety of plant industry programs such as seed certification, vertebrate pest control, licensing of pesticide applicators and pest control firms, agricultural produce grading or enforcement of regulations related to agriculture and horticulture; OR one year of experience as an Agriculturist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    This job may entail the handling and/or use of pesticides.
    This position is located in Elko.
