The Position
Electricians perform skilled electrical work to maintain and repair electrical systems and equipment.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This job opening is for the Nevada Department of Corrections' Southern Desert Correctional Center facility in Indian Springs, NV. Electricians are responsible to maintain and repair all electrical systems and equipment. Incumbent will trouble shoot, diagnose, maintain and repair circuit breakers and transformers emergency generators, high voltage primary power lines, electro-mechanical/magnetic locks and gates, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, fire alarm systems, electric motors, and lighting systems; maintain backup emergency power to include all associated components; perform new electrical construction as directed to be completed according to established electrical codes. Incumbents perform routine preventative maintenance and order parts and/or materials per established protocol, maintain all documentation relative to electrical appliances and equipment, estimate the cost of the jobs, acquire materials to complete the jobs, document time and material costs for billing purposes and must have knowledge of state and local building and fire codes relevant to electrical work and construction; may function as a lead worker for an inmate crew on a regular basis and document inmate performance through completion of periodic performance reports and will be responsible for implementing security procedures which include securing the work area from unauthorized inmates and accountability for assigned inmates, staff, tools, and equipment. Experience in a correctional setting is preferred. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Completion of a recognized electrician apprenticeship program followed by one year of journey level electrician experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Applicants must be willing to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed for stand-by emergency status.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
