The Position
Substance Abuse Counselors perform professional duties in areas of screening, assessment, case management, education, and treatment of clients and perform related administrative duties and recordkeeping in accordance with the standards and requirements of the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES is recruiting for a Substance Abuse Counselor II that will be located at the Nevada Youth Training Center (NYTC) located in Elko, NV. Substance Abuse Counselor's perform intake evaluations of clients; review personal history files and court documents; conduct personal interviews; gather pertinent information and diagnose/classify youth with the use of screening and assessment instruments such as the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM) standards; determine level of care, treatment needs; prepare, monitor and document client progress on treatment plans; plan, develop, organize and conduct Level I and Level 11.1 intensive outpatient treatment programs; conduct individual, group, and family counseling; prepare statistical documentation and reports on clients and services; maintain ethical and confidentiality standards; and perform related duties as assigned. ensure your application reflects your current license information. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Certification as an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor by the State of Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors.
Special Notes
    Per NAC 641C.280 Substance Abuse Counselors who supervise a certified intern must have Certification as a Supervisor of Alcohol and Drug Interns by the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors. Substance Abuse Counselor III positions that supervise Substance Abuse Counselor I positions must have this certification at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
    Licensure as a Certified Counselor or Licensed Counselor from the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors is required at the time of application and as a condition of continuing employment.
    This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
    This position is required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
