The Position
Accounting Assistants perform clerical accounting work in the maintenance of accounts and accounting records for State agencies.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is located within the Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH), Fiscal Services in Carson City. This position is responsible for auditing and processing payable and receivable accounting documents; reconciling budget accounts and internal budget expense tracking system; assisting with budgetary projections; providing assistance with the biennial budget building process; and participates in the performance of clerical accounting work in the maintenance of accounts and accounting records for the Division of Public and Behavioral Health, following State and agency accounting procedures in the areas of payroll, budgetary accounting, cash flow, revenues and expenditures. Incumbents review accounting system reports for accuracy and make corrections such as coding to ensure compliance with clearly established guidelines, collect data for standard recurring reports or prepare internal reports that combine historical data with Controller's reports; and perform related duties as assigned. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of clerical accounting experience which must have included duties such as coding documents to distribute funds; preparing accounts payable and accounts receivable documents and balancing accounts; and using computer spreadsheets to record, track organize and report data; OR one year of experience as an Accounting Assistant I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Applicants must have completed the IFS-Financial Advantage training.
