Work Type: Permanent, full time vacancies as they may occur
in this geographical location.
Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Incumbents make comprehensive clinical observations/evaluations of health needs; conduct sick calls for inmates and obtain physician's orders for treatment; administer medication; perform physical assessments; obtain lab samples; provide emergency care such as CPR and first aid; documents accurate information into medical records; prepare treatment rooms; schedule appointments; and participate in clinic sessions. Incumbents will be working closely with inmates. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
License as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which was in a correctional or institutional setting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associates degree in nursing and one year of experience.
Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of employment.
Probationary employees must successfully complete pre-service training (PST) provided by the department.
As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, positions are subject to call-back, overtime on short notice, stand-by status, and must work various hours and/or shifts including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Some positions require a valid driver's license at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
