Agriculturists perform a variety of inspections and enforcement duties related to regulated agricultural programs such as seed testing and seed certification, commercial pest control licensing, commercial nursery inspection and licensing, vertebrate pest control, noxious weeds, insect and plant disease quarantine surveys, and commercial feed and agricultural product grading.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
The Agriculturist III, supervised by Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) Noxious Weeds Coordinator, will review and evaluate weed mitigation plans submitted by private contractors for NDOT highway infrastructure projects throughout the state. The incumbent ensures accepted mitigation plans are being followed and in doing so will inspect weed-free material sites, monitor pesticide applications performed by private and NDOT staff, identify noxious weeds at new and existing project sites, and provide decontamination procedure recommendations. Applicants must have knowledge pertaining to the identification of state listed noxious weeds and their biology, control methods utilizing integrated pest management principals, federal and state pesticide laws and safety, and revegetation practices. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in agricultural science or related field and two years of journey level experience in a variety of plant industry programs such as seed certification, vertebrate pest control, licensing of pesticide applicators and pest control firms, agricultural produce grading or enforcement of regulations related to agriculture and horticulture; OR one year of experience as an Agriculturist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |

Experience identifying and eradicating noxious weeds is required. |
|
Experience with revegetation and planting principles is required |
|
Experience utilizing integrated pest management principles is required. |
|
Experience interpreting federal and state pesticide laws is required. |

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) |

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process. |
