Health Information Coordinators store, maintain, retrieve, retain, and release health information for a comprehensive medical/clinical records system in compliance with applicable standards and licensing requirements, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The position supports SOUTHERN NEVADA ADULT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES (SNAMHS), Health Information Systems (HIS), in the medical records department, located at 6161 W Charleston Blvd, Building 1, Las Vegas NV.
Our Agency's mission is to help adults with mental illness improve their quality of life. Through a team approach, we provide innovative inpatient and outpatient mental health services for the Southern Nevada community. Some of the valuable services we provide include Psychiatric Emergency Services, Inpatient Services, Mobile Crises, Outpatient Counseling, Service Coordination, Intensive Service Coordination, Medication Clinic, Psychosocial Rehabilitation, Residential Support Programs, Mental Health Court, Senior Outreach, Consumer Advocacy and Programs for Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) teams. Inpatient services are provided through the new Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital. Outpatient services are provided through four mental health clinics located throughout the community. We are accredited by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations.
SNAMHS is an exciting place to work with emphasis on utilizing the recovery model, developing innovative programs, increasing consumer and family involvement, educating the public through a variety of activities, and implementing a best practices clinical program. The incumbent must accurately maintain a standardized filing system; explain technical policies, procedures and standards related to medical records; perform quality improvement activities; perform arithmetic calculations including ratios and percentages in order to complete statistical reports; read, interpret and accurately complete forms and documents; operate a computer in order to enter, access and retrieve information and create reports.
This is a full-time position with an anticipated work schedule of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with Saturday/Sunday off. Incumbents will be working an innovative variable schedule with overtime after 40 hours per week. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Graduation from high school or equivalent, one semester-length course in basic medical terminology and two years of experience in the medical records department of an inpatient hospital, skilled nursing facility, mental health clinic, large multi-specialty medical practice, facility for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities or free standing clinic which included initiating and maintaining medical/clinical records; releasing information in accordance with established laws, rules and regulations; maintaining confidentiality; and working with staff, patients and the general public; OR one year of experience as a Health Information Coordinator Trainee in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. |

This position requires the ability to perform medical transcription, medical records abstraction, analysis, coding, indexing and/or scanning into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). |
