The Position
Exhibit Preparators perform a broad range of duties involving the research, design, construction, installation and maintenance of exhibits in a museum, gallery, or similar environment.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This is a full-time permanent position in the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Division of Museums & History, Nevada State Museum, located in Las Vegas, Nevada. The primary responsibilities of the Exhibits Preparator 2 include working closely with the Exhibits Manager, Facility Supervisor, curatorial staff, maintenance staff, volunteers, and interns in planning, designing, building, installing, and taking down on- and off-site permanent and temporary exhibits, as well as maintaining and repairing all museum exhibit features, infrastructure, and equipment. In addition, the Exhibits Preparator 2 will work closely with the Exhibits Manager in managing an Exhibits budget, and will directly supervise volunteers and interns as assigned. As assigned, the Exhibits Preparator will support the museum's educational programming and events. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in museum studies, exhibition design, industrial arts, commercial arts, graphic design, graphic arts, or a related field, and one year of professional experience designing and developing exhibits in a museum, gallery or comparable setting; OR an Associate's degree from an accredited college in museum studies, exhibition design, industrial arts, commercial arts, graphic design, graphic arts or related field and two years of experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Exhibit Preparator I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
The Examination
Application Evaluation Exam
The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.

1) Do you have experience in the field of museum exhibit design, construction and maintenance of interpretive exhibits, manual and electronic interactive components? Please describe.
2) Do you have experience in using common shop tools, manual and power, including any experience with 3D printing? For both responses please indicate the extent of experience and where and how it was gained.
