The Position
Public Information Officers manage the public relations and information program for an agency on a statewide basis; write media releases, newsletters, and informational brochures; produce audiovisual presentations and take photographs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. This opening is for a Public Information Officer I. The position is located within the Division of Health Care Financing and Policy (DHCFP) of Health and Human Services. This position can be located in Las Vegas or Carson City.
The Public Information Officer (PIO) is responsible for outreach and engagement within the Division and managing the retrieval, retention, and release of information and comprehensive records at DHCFP. The incumbent will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with HIPAA and FERPA laws and procedures. The PIO will be responsible to: develop and implement policies and procedures, disseminate information to internal and external customers, ensuring confidentiality and preservation of information. Lastly, the position will manage the social media accounts and advertising of the Division. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, English, public or community relations, communications or closely related field and two years of professional experience in public relations or public information including writing media releases and newsletters, preparing speeches and multimedia presentations; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    This position may require work on evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
    A valid drivers license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Professional experience writing communications and media releases specific to Medicaid is required.
    Professional experience planning and publicizing events for large groups of people is required.
