Welders plan and lay out projects and join metal components together using gas welding, arc welding, soldering and brazing processes to fabricate, strengthen and/or repair components, equipment and fixtures.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position is located within the Equipment Division, Las Vegas. This position plays a pivotal role in keeping the Nevada Department of Transportation's (NDOT) equipment fleet in good repair for both routine maintenance and emergency response. Incumbents will make equipment repairs, modifications, and adaptations using a variety of welding equipment and techniques as well as problem solving skills in performing complex layout and fabrication of welded equipment components to keep a substantial equipment fleet of dump trucks, plows, sanders, truck bodies, and other pieces of equipment used for roadway repair, maintenance, and emergency response in safe and efficient operating condition. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Completion of an approved welding apprenticeship training program followed by one year of journey level welding experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

Welding certification issued by the American Welding Society (AWS) is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |
|
Incumbent is required to furnish their own tools. |
|
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. |
|
Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. |
