The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

JOB INFORMATION
Work Type: Permanent, full time vacancies as they may occur
in this geographical location.
Conservation Educators plan, organize, implement and evaluate educational programs designed to teach hunter and boating safety, environmental concepts and other wildlife related areas to the public, and participate in public relations activities.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. The Outdoor Connection Coordinator (OCC) will develop and administer the agency's statewide outdoor connection plan and will also be responsible for coordinating efforts to better connect people with nature. Using social science and other tools, the OCC will conduct needs assessments, develop and implement the plan. The incumbent will then analyze and evaluate effectiveness of the plan and modify as needed. The OCC will implement and measure the success of outreach programs (outdoor connection, relevancy, outdoor education, etc.) at regional, statewide and national levels. The incumbent will compile and analyze results of conservation connection campaigns to evaluate participation trends and support of conservation in Nevada; review data for outdoor enthusiast purchasing behavior to provide a better understanding of Nevada's diverse and growing population related to outdoor recreation; and will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with community and business partners to enhance program offerings to enhance conservation by connecting people with nature.
The incumbent will be one of the leads in national, regional, and Nevada outdoor recreation meetings. The OCC will stay current with and update leadership on developing sciences and techniques for connecting people to the outdoors as well as progress in implementing NDOW's outdoor conservation connection plan. The ultimate purpose of this position is to enhance conservation in Nevada by engaging and serving broader constituents.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education, journalism, communications, outdoor recreation/leadership/education, wildlife management, biology or related field and two years of professional experience in conservation education which included presenting educational programs, writing news releases, developing written materials for publication, providing interviews for print and broadcast media and/or preparing and presenting radio and television broadcasts; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR one year of
experience as a Conservation Educator II in Nevada State service.
Special Requirements
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Statewide travel is required.
Occasional nights and/or weekends may be required.
Pursuant to NRS 432A.170, positions offered employment in these positions must submit to a State of Nevada/FBI pre-employment background investigation.
