Wildlife Area Technicians may be assigned to work at a wildlife management area, on a water development
crew or as a regional utility person. Typical duties involve the maintenance of wildlife habitat by operating
light and heavy equipment, controlling water levels in wetland areas, managing vegetation and related activities intended to develop and enhance an environment which will support the State's wildlife species.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position serves a member of a two-person Wildlife Water Development crew that performs a wide range of water development (guzzler) inspection, maintenance, and construction duties. The position assists with and is responsible for operating and maintaining vehicles, heavy equipment, trailers, and various hand and power tools in a safe and responsible manner that is consistent with operating and maintenance manuals. Incumbents are also responsible for managing an extensive materials inventory and planning/executing materials purchasing for the build season and individual projects. This position frequently interacts with NDOW and non-NDOW personnel, including volunteers that assist with guzzler construction projects. Incumbent will provide training and supervision on relevant equipment use, construction techniques, and safety to volunteers and, at times, seasonal employees. Incumbent will work for extended periods in remote locations that are a significant distance from the home base, including camping and working for up to eight days at a time. This position also participates in other programs as needed to achieve objectives of the Department of Wildlife and Habitat Division. There are two vacant positions with one being in Las Vegas and the other in Winnemucca. The positions are being recruited at all three levels; Wildlife Area Technician 3, Wildlife Area Technician 2, and Wildlife Area Technician 1.

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and five years experience in maintenance, farming or construction, two of which included experience in maintaining lands for wildlife, managing water levels and manipulating water flow, maintaining and/or constructing equipment and facilities, and surveying wildlife by counting and taking inventory of species; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR one year of experience as a Wildlife Area Technician II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid Nevada commercial driver's license.

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. |

Positions in this series are required to obtain and maintain a valid Nevada commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement and air brake certification within six months of appointment. |
