Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This Environmental Scientist IV Supervisor (ES IV) position is being recruited for the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP), Bureau of Corrective Actions (BCA) Las Vegas Office. This position will be responsible for implementing and managing the leaking underground storage tank and corrective action programs in Clark County, Nevada. In addition, this ES IV will be responsible for recruiting, mentoring, and supervising staff; interacting and working with consultants and the regulated public; and developing general program enhancements. The ES IV will also be expected to interface regularly and effectively with NDEP management, specifically the bureau chief in Carson City, to communicate progress and recommendations on case work. The ES IV will be required to demonstrate a clear understanding of soil and groundwater investigation principles, have experience in soil and groundwater remediation, and understand and know how to apply risk assessment modeling and other modeling applications to contaminated sites. Ideal candidates have a basic understanding of accounting principles, have familiarity with database program applications, are able to communicate clearly and effectively in meetings and workshops, and interact with other branches in the bureau and other NDEP bureaus that coordinate with staff in the Las Vegas Office. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and four years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research and planning; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and six years of professional environmental experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

Experience in soil and groundwater remediation is required. |

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience.
