The Position
Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
This recruitment is for a Solid Waste Inspector within the Compliance and Enforcement Branch of in the Bureau of Sustainable Materials Management located in Carson City, Nevada. The position performs compliance monitoring and enforcement of Nevada Solid and Federal Waste regulations. Primary duties include facility compliance inspections, complaint investigations, completion of facility inspection reports, enforcement correspondence, and data entry into the Solid Waste database. A qualified applicant should also be able to: read and understand regulatory language, operation plans, maps, construction drawings; be proficient in Microsoft software or programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint); be able to work independently or within a team in both field and office environments; communicate effectively with the general public, the regulated community, stakeholders and bureau personnel; and be able to prepare written reports and technical documents. The incumbent will be required to research and develop monitoring and inspection programs to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations regarding all forms of solid waste collection and disposal throughout Nevada and should expect to be in the field up to 50% of the time. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and two years of technical environmental experience which involved assisting in environmental program research and planning; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
