The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

JOB INFORMATION
Work Type: Permanent, full time vacancies as they may occur
in this geographical location.
Economists prepare and conduct research, analysis and studies of economic, social, fiscal and other factors in
relation to topic of study. Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
This position is for an Economist I within the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Analytics in Carson City. This position will be responsible for assisting with the analysis of healthcare data including medical and pharmacy claims as well as other Medicaid provider financial and statistical data; preparing reports on utilization and financial reports; assisting with the development of Medicaid rates and analyzing rate appeals for Medicaid providers; calculating and preparing analysis showing fiscal impact of rate proposals; reviewing and analyzing changes in federal and state law to determine the impact to the agency; drafting state plan amendments and other policies and procedures; and presenting at public hearings and provider workshops.
This position maintains data quality and control and completes all requests related to claims data from internal and external partners within specified timeframes in a fast-paced working environment under minimal supervision. This position requires the demonstrated use of statistical methods and programs utilizing SAS, STATA or similar analytic software. This position may require travel both in and out of state up to 25%. The demonstration of SAS or comparable analytic software will be required in a testing exam for candidates selected for an interview. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in economics, labor economics, statistics or a related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience in conducting statistical/economic data collection and analysis involving the application of statistical, mathematical and economic principles.
Special Requirements
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
Additional Position Criteria
Experience with medical billing and/or medical claims is required.
Experience with SAS or a comparable analytic software and/or programming language (STATA, R, SQL, etc.) is required.
