The Position
Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position is responsible for the enforcement of the requirements of the air program and chemical accident prevention program under the Bureaus of Air Quality Planning and Air Pollution Control. The position will be responsible for: reviewing reports of alleged violations, using a database to track enforcement actions, drafting and proofreading official correspondence including notices and orders, participating in enforcement conferences, and providing supporting technical documentation for enforcement actions (calculations, modeling, etc.). The successful candidate will possess demonstrated skills, knowledge and abilities sufficient to enforce State & Federal statutes, regulations, and permits for air pollution control and chemical accident prevention. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and three years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research and planning; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and five years of professional environmental experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

    Some positions may require specialized education and/or experience which will be identified at the time of recruitment.
    Some positions may require a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Special Requirements
    This position has a 25% travel requirement.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Experience in ambient air quality or air pollution control is required.
    Experience in the implementation of local, state, or federal environmental regulations is required.
