Administrative Assistants perform a broad variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative support duties in an assigned agency, program or other work unit within State government and the Nevada System of Higher Education.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. The Division of Welfare and Supportive Services is recruiting for an Administrative Assistant IV position as the Employment and Training Specialist (ETS) for the New Employees of Nevada (NEON) Program. The incumbent in this position will provide specialized case management in support of the NEON Employment & Training program. The selected incumbent will work with agency customers to elicit information regarding education, training, work experience, and occupational goals or interests; advise job seekers of self-assessment tests and career options; suggest training and other resources; edit and proof resumes; identify obstacles to employment; pre-screen and coordinate job search and follow-up activities with community-based services, partner services, state agencies or federal programs; coach job seeking customers regarding the application process, job interviews, and other job search skills.
The selected incumbent will also contact and maintain on-going relationships with local businesses for job referral; conduct group orientation and training sessions regarding program requirements or available services; answer inquiries from the public and/or employers regarding program services. Typical duties include completing family assessments to identify barriers to developing personal responsibility plans, providing support services, providing referrals for crisis intervention, motivating, coaching, and monitoring federal participation requirements. Specialized duties in support of the NEON program include compiling, organizing and consolidating financial and statistical data required to support program recipients; analyzing and reconciling numerical data and narrative information; and preparing reports and documenting budgeting methods according to specific policy and procedure instructions. Candidates should have the ability to review and evaluate information concerning program clientele; interpret and explain program policies, regulations and requirements to individuals seeking or receiving assistance; develop and produce information materials as requested by supervisor; ensure program activities conform to established goals and policies within required timeframes. Persons interested in this position should have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, have exceptional organizational and analytical skills, and possess the ability to provide quality and professional customer service.

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of progressively responsible relevant work experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: providing administrative/program support to professional staff and management; performing secretarial duties in support of a manager; coordinating communications between the manager, staff and program clientele; supervision of subordinate staff; researching information from internal and external sources; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

This position requires work experience in a public assistance setting interpreting and explaining complex rules and regulations, laws and program requirements to clients. Examples of a public assistance program are Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Energy Assistance Program (EAP), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid and Child Care Subsidy Program. |
