Public Information Officers manage the public relations and information program for an agency on a statewide basis; write media releases, newsletters, and informational brochures; produce audiovisual presentations and take photographs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. This position is located at the Department of Motor Vehicles Carson City Office and will be the lead position responsible for performing public relations and providing marketing communication and public program strategy oversight. The position will interact directly with the public; act as a liaison with other Public Information Officers and officials from federal, state, local, and non-governmental organizations; direct, supervise, and evaluate the activities and performance of the Public Information Officer I; evaluate advertising and promotional materials for compatibility with public relations efforts; respond directly to media inquiries from international, national, regional, and local media; ensure the public is aware of all new regulatory requirements, traffic laws, and program changes; oversee and coordinate Department websites and provide content management and maintenance utilizing current industry standards and concepts; coordinate and script press releases and public service announcements to promote alternative services offered by the Department; monitor and respond to social media as needed; and create informational flyers, posters, brochures and videos.

Additional Real ID criteria provides that the DMV shall not employ a person if they have been convicted of a felony within 7 years of their application or if an applicant was released from incarceration for one of these crimes within five years of their application including Unlawful Firearm Violations, Extortion, Fraud, Bribery, Smuggling, Immigration Violations, Distribution of Controlled Substances, Arson, Kidnapping, Rape or Sexual Abuse, Assault With Intent to Kill, Robbery, or Fraudulent Seaport Entry. Under the authority of NRS 239B.010.1(b), the DMV also utilizes NRS 205 as criteria to obtain an FBI fingerprint clearance on prospective employees. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, English, public or community relations, communications or closely related field and three years of professional experience in administering or directing a public information program including writing media releases and newsletters, preparing and presenting speeches and multimedia presentations, independent media contact, development of public relations strategies and journalistic writing; OR one year of experience as a Public Information Officer I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. |

A valid drivers license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |

Experience creating advertising and promotional campaigns is required. |
