Biologists conduct fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects and research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; develop and implement project proposals and work plans; prepare recommendations; and participate in public relations activities.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
This position will work with the Game Management Division to coordinate with Game Division and field staff (including seasonal technicians, graduate students, and volunteers) to effectively and efficiently conduct both field and data management work related to big game, upland game and furbearers. These duties will be related to multiple Game Division Programs, including, but not limited to, big game and upland game aerial and ground based surveys, big game disease surveillance and survival monitoring, game harvest data collection, Landowner Elk Incentive Tag Program monitoring, Elk Damage Management Program administration, Landowner Deer and Antelope Compensation Tag Program monitoring, monitoring and collecting radio collars, data entry, wildlife capture and transplant activities, report writing and collecting and transporting biological samples from sick or dead animals.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, wildlife management or closely related field; OR graduation from high school and two years of technical wildlife management or fisheries experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and professional experience in conducting research studies; data collection, analysis and interpretation; and development and implementation of project proposals for fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects. |

Work may be performed under adverse weather conditions and include extensive walking under difficult conditions in remote and/or primitive locations. |

Working on occasional nights and/or weekends may be required. |
|
Specialized experience may be required and will be identified at the time of recruitment. |
|
Statewide travel and outdoor work is required. |
|
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |
|
Geographical Information System (GIS) experience, training, or coursework to map, monitor, and analyze datasets is required. |
|
Experience, training, or coursework with GPS is required. |
|
Ability and/or Experience to fly in helicopter for aerial surveys |
