Building Construction Inspectors perform a variety of building construction inspections and contract administration work requiring a broad knowledge of construction principles and practices of all phases of construction including plumbing, heating, electrical, structural design, air conditioning and landscaping.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Department of Administration, State Public Works division is hiring Building Construction Inspector 3 positions in both the Carson City and Las Vegas areas. Under the direction of the Building Official and in cooperation with State Public Works project managers, this position is responsible for Building Inspections. Performing duties at journey level for all disciplines of construction for buildings and structures on State of Nevada owned property to ensure compliance with construction documents. The incumbent must ensure compliance with all applicable codes, and will perform plan review and inspections for plumbing, mechanical, electrical, accessibility, structural design, building, landscaping, etc. Access to prisons requires a separate Nevada Department of Corrections background check, at no cost to the applicant. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Travel up to 50% of the time is required. PLEASE NOTE: I.C.C. (International Code Council) certification as a Commercial Building Inspector must be attached to your application at time of submittal. Certification as a Plans Examiner is preferred.

Graduation from high school or equivalent education, current certification as a Commercial Building Inspector in at least one building construction trade (e.g., plumbing, electrical, building and mechanical) and two years of building construction inspection experience which included plumbing, electrical, building and mechanical areas and required the review and interpretation of building codes, architectural drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with contract documents; OR one year of experience as a Building Construction Inspector II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |
