Program Officers administer a program or major component of a program by planning, coordinating and managing services and activities in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements and established program performance standards and objectives.
Incumbents administer one or more programs or a major component of a large, complex program which affects a more targeted number of customers or clients; revise, recommend, and implement changes to work plans, program performance standards and objectives for providing services, and eligibility requirements.
Under the direction of the Deputy Director of Programs and Services for the Nevada Department of Veterans Services, the Program Officer 2/Cemetery Superintendent plans, organizes, coordinates, and manages the operations and services provided by the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery located in Fernley, Nevada. The incumbent will provide and/or oversee the technical information in the areas of horticulture and mechanical business pertaining to grounds maintenance and propagation of trees, plans and turf; participates in various appropriate Veteran-focused community events as a representative of the department; develops and implements policies and procedures specific to the cemetery; works with multiple external agencies to ensure timely, efficient, and cost effective completion of projects pertinent to cemetery operations; collaborates with community contractors and/or organizations to ensure proper protocol is observed and planned events are managed accordingly; collects data and conducts reviews, prepares forecasts and projections to determine budgetary needs and requirements and ensures the operation of the cemetery is conducted within the constraints of the allotted budget.
This position will supervise and evaluate the performance of staff members. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, or other discipline related to the program assignment and one year of professional experience in planning, coordinating and administering a program which included interpretation of laws and regulations; development of program policy and procedures; development and implementation of program performance standards and objectives for providing services; and development and implementation of eligibility requirements; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of professional experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Program Officer I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |
