The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

Engineering Technicians perform a broad range of duties involving technical engineering work in support of professional engineers including drafting, engineering calculations, surveying, materials and soils testing, construction inspection, roadway design, right-of-way engineering, planning, permitting and inspection, water rights appropriation and land acquisition in support of civil or related professional engineering work. Work requires the application of technical engineering skills, methods and practices in compiling technical data, drafting, computer aided software, operating specialized equipment and preparing engineering related documents.
Under general direction, incumbents function independently at the advanced journey level performing technical work requiring knowledge of engineering theories, principles, concepts and practices in a specialized area..
This position is located within the Adjudications Section of the Division of Water Resources in Carson City, Nevada. Incumbent will be part of an adjudications team and will assist in mapping, performing field investigations, hydrographic surveys and prepares preliminary and final orders of determination. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering, physics, math or closely related field and two years of experience in a specialized engineering function or program area which involved the application of work procedures, standards and controls; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
The Examination
Engineering Technician 4-Water Resources
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

1) Describe your experience, including the number of years, writing technical reports.
2) Describe your experience, including the number of years, using the following:
a) ArcGIS;
b) Google maps.
3) Describe your field work experience, including the number of years, involving any surface water or groundwater measurements. Include any use of GPS, stream gages, weirs and/or flumes.
4) Describe your experience, including number of years, in reviewing, researching or interpreting legal or policy documents.
5) Describe your experience, including the number of years, providing technical assistance to the public or other professionals regarding natural resource related issues.
