The Position
Development Technicians fabricate, maintain, calibrate, repair and modify a variety of electrical, mechanical and computerized equipment and computer systems used in support of academic research, data gathering, analysis and teaching; and specialize in two or more technical areas such as electronics, mechanical devices or computer systems.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Department of Administration, Enterprise Information Technology Services (EITS), Network Transport Services Unit is recruiting for a Development Technician in Carson City. Incumbent is responsible for installing and maintaining inside and outside plant infrastructure directly supporting microwave communication facilities in central and western Nevada. Duties include installation and maintenance of propane generators, transfer switches, AC & DC power systems, solar systems, air conditioners, tower climbing to work on lines and antennas also propane delivery to refuel generators in support of a statewide enterprise microwave network. Frequent (up to 50%) backcountry travel to remote communications facilities throughout the year is required. The position requires maintaining, installing, and replacing elliptical waveguide lines and microwave antennas on towers. This position requires driving and maintain snow-cats, snowmobiles, Razr and 4-wheel drive vehicles to gain access to sites throughout the year. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in electrical or mechanical engineering or related field and one year of experience in the fabrication, maintenance, calibration, repair and modification of a variety of electrical, mechanical and/or computerized equipment and computer systems; OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in electronics or related field and two years of experience in the fabrication, maintenance, calibration, repair and modification of a variety of electrical, mechanical and/or computerized equipment and computer systems; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Special Requirements
    This position requires frequent travel to remote locations.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
Additional Position Criteria
    Experience installing and maintaining propane generators and transfer switches is required.
    Climbing tower structures up to 120' feet tall is required.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
