The Position
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Highway Construction Aid position recruitment will be used to underfill multiple Highway Maintenance Worker I positions in Battle Mountain, Nevada on Crew 371. Battle Mountain is an 8-man crew. Incumbent assists in routine maintenance duties, including keeping pavement surface, shoulders, clear zones, and associated roadways in good repair; summer betterment projects, and assistance in emergency operations. The hours for these positions are subject to change depending on the needs of the appointing authority and may be five 8-hour shifts or four 10-hours shifts. These positions may require working in inclement weather. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older upon hire. THIS RECRUITMENT WILL BE USED TO UNDER-FILL A HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE WORKER I. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Ability to follow oral and written instructions and perform physical tasks requiring moderate strength.
Special Notes
    If underfilling, one year of experience as a Highway Construction Aid in Nevada State service may provide for progression to Highway Maintenance Worker I upon meeting the minimum qualifications, with satisfactory performance and with the approval of the appointing authority.
Special Requirements
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. In addition, federal law requires random testing for controlled substances during employment.
    This position may require working alternate shifts and outside of traditional business hours. The hours of this position are subject to change based on the needs of the appointing authority. Typical shifts are four 10-hour or five 8-hour shifts, but may include some variation depending on the specific needs of the department.
