The Position
Under immediate supervision, incumbents perform duties below the journey level while receiving training for advancement to an entry-level professional health/human services class.
This position is located within the Department of Health and Human Services, Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) - Nevada Early Intervention Services in Carson City, NV. ADSD provides an atmosphere of innovative thinking, teamwork, friendly co-workers, and provides a positive working environment. The mission of ADSD is to provide leadership and advocacy in the planning, development and delivery of a high quality, comprehensive support service system across the lifespan to allow all of Nevada's elders, children and adults with disabilities or special health care needs, to live independent, meaningful and dignified lives to the greatest extent possible. The incumbent will underfill the Developmental Specialist 3 position and will advance to the next level in the series upon recommendation of the Appointing Authority, meeting the minimum qualifications and satisfactory performance. This position provides home-based specialized instruction and case management/service coordination services to children under the age of three with disabilities (that can include children with developmental delays, autism, vision and hearing impairments, genetic syndromes and prematurity) under the Part C federal regulations of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The incumbent also serves on multi-disciplinary teams to determine program eligibility and services. Applicants selected for a Developmental Specialist position will be required to obtain an Endorsement License in Early Childhood Special Education at their own cost, within the first 3 years of employment. Experience working with children birth to five years old with developmental delays and families is preferred. This position will require up to 50% travel within the service delivery area of the Northeast region of Nevada (Lyon, Mineral, Douglas, Storey and Churchill counties).

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, early childhood development, psychology, public health, special education, nursing, or other discipline directly related to the field in which the applicant is to be trained; OR two years of journey level technical or paraprofessional experience in the field in which the applicant is to be trained. (NOTE: some jobs strictly require a bachelor's degree).
Special Notes
    Some series may strictly require at least a bachelor's degree to qualify. Only applicants who possess a bachelor's or higher degree may be considered qualified for this class.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Applicants must have a current Driver's License.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal background and fingerprint check is required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
Additional Position Criteria
    This position requires a Bachelor's degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university in early childhood special education, human growth and development, psychology, counseling, social work or closely related field.
    The position requires that the person hired either maintains or obtains their Early Childhood Special Education Endorsement within three years of hire. Can you meet this requirement?
