The Position
Exhibit Preparators perform a broad range of duties involving the research, design, construction, installation and maintenance of exhibits in a museum, gallery, or similar environment.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
The Department of Tourism, Division of Cultural Affairs is recruiting for an Exhibits Manager. This position is geographically located at the Nevada State Museum in Las Vegas, NV. The incumbent will work closely with the museum director, exhibits preparator, facility supervisor, curatorial staff, maintenance staff, volunteers, and interns in the planning, designing, building, installing, and breaking down of permanent and temporary exhibits; maintain and repair all museum exhibit features, infrastructure, and equipment; manage the exhibits budget; supervise the exhibits preparator, volunteers, and interns; monitor exhibit shop and storage areas for cleanliness and safety hazards; and support the museum's educational programming and events as requested. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Master's degree from an accredited college or university in museum studies, exhibition design, industrial arts, commercial arts, graphic design, graphic arts, or related field and two years of professional experience in the design, development and operation of exhibits or exhibit programs in a museum, gallery or comparable setting; OR a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in museum studies, exhibition design, industrial arts, commercial arts, graphic design, graphic arts or related field and three years of professional experience as described above; OR two years of experience as an Exhibit Preparator II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    The ability to travel at least 25% of the time is required.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    This position is required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
Additional Position Criteria
    Experience working with electrical, mechanical, and computer systems is required.
    This position requires the incumbent to secure and maintain appropriate Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) certification(s).
