The Position
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse III for the Oasis On Campus Treatment Homes (OCTH) to actively participate on a multidisciplinary team directing nursing care for youth. Located in Las Vegas, NV Oasis is a treatment facility with 5 group homes that provides mental health treatment for children age 6 to 17. Dynamic work responsibilities include: Implementing and guiding nursing services and nursing care; Implement individualized goal-directed nursing plan; Provide input and make recommendations concerning nursing care issues at nursing staff meetings; Initiate and carry out therapeutic, recreational, educational, social, and physical care activities; Implement client monitoring plans, make observations regarding behavior of the youth and the effectiveness of planned program activities; administering and monitoring medication; quality assurance tasks including medication chart audits; oversight of youth menus; and making recommendations for change. The incumbent has the authority and responsibility for assuring nursing care objectives are established and met, in accordance with the nursing association professional standards of psychiatric nursing practice and consistent with OCTH policy. Will also supervise and guide a team of psychiatric nurses to ensure program and nursing goals are met while providing positive leadership for nursing staff. Chosen applicant will also assist the program in becoming CARF accredited. This is a full-time position with a variable work agreement with overtime after 40 hours per week. The OCTH program is also licensed through Clark County Foster Care licensing and applicants need to be able to meet those licensing requirements in addition to the State Personnel requirements. DCFS also encourages education by providing on-going trainings and paid release time for staff to obtain CEU's.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and three years of professional nursing experience, two of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR one year of experience as a Psychiatric Nurse II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of continuing employment.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
