The Position
Under administrative direction of the Department Director, plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the statewide investigation, safety and health, internal audit, risk management, and loss control/inspection functions; direct and coordinate staff and activities; draft policies and procedures and prepare reports, recommendations, and corrective action plans to optimize efficiency in the use of departmental resources. Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
This position is located with the Nevada Department of Corrections (NDOC) in Carson City. The Inspector General oversees the Security Threat Groups; PREA; safety and health; internal audits; risk management; inmate litigation based upon incident reports; criminal and non-criminal investigative services; and provides testimony. The incumbent also has oversight of the statewide substance abuse testing for all inmates, legislative and budget preparation and guidance, and task force participation in support of local law enforcement. *** THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Associate's degree or equivalent education from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, police science, public administration or closely related field and five years of varied and increasingly responsible experience conducting criminal and/or administrative investigations as a peace officer or officer of the court, two years of which must include supervision of professional investigative staff; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Applicant must meet Peace Officer's Training & Training (P.O.S.T.) requirements as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
Additional Position Criteria
    The incumbent must obtain and maintain a minimum of POST Category II certification as a condition of continuing employment.

The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience.
