The Position
Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) is recruiting for Mental Health Counselor I for Northern Nevada Child and Adolescent Services (NNCAS), Early Childhood Mental Health Services, located Reno/Sparks, NV. This position provides counseling, case management, direct clinical services, and behavioral and human services to children birth through six years. Incumbents provide individual, family, and group therapy utilizing evidence-based treatment practices, review records, complete assessments, prepare treatment plans, discuss child's treatment at case staffing, administer individual and standardized assessments, integrate and analyze information from all available sources, document quality of care, ensure information is available to other members of the treatment team by completing required forms and report and maintain documentation to ensure compliance with established laws, regulations, policies and standards of care.
Clinical experience with children under eight years old is preferred. Licensure or Post-Graduate Intern approval in clinical fields of MFT, CPC, or LCSW is preferred. This position is full-time with a regular work schedule that includes a variable work agreement with overtime after 40 hours per week. DCFS programs include child protective and welfare service delivery in rural Nevada and oversight of urban county-operated child protective and welfare services, children's mental/behavioral health treatment and residential services (outpatient and inpatient acute) in urban Nevada, and statewide juvenile justice services including state-operated youth training centers and youth parole. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a master's degree and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for fingerprinting.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
