The Position
Information Technology (IT) Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security. Incumbents may perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency.
Incumbents perform advanced journey level duties and may train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of subordinate staff and/or serve as a project leader as assigned. Incumbents may function as a unit leader to include directing the activities of a branch IT support unit, overseeing projects of limited scope, and coordinating activities with other work groups.
This position will be located in either Carson City or Las Vegas, depending on the candidate chosen. Applications Analysis and Development positions analyze, develop (design, program, and construct), implement, maintain, and modify various platforms of information systems. Incumbents define and implement a solution to a given problem that requires an individually tailored response for end-user requirements. Incumbents must have the ability to program in a general purpose programming language, develop written requirements for proposed applications, develop and present applications training materials to users, and possess knowledge of the necessary interfaces to the computer operating system. The incumbent will act as an advanced journey level/professional application programmer/analyst for the Department's various applications. The Department recently completed a multi-phased project to replace mainframe-based legacy applications with applications that use Java and other COTS products. The Department uses Hewlett Packard (HP) Quality Center for defect logging and Quick Test Pro (QTP) to build automated testing scripts. The department is looking for a programmer/analyst with Automated Functional Testing skills who can maintain and enhance the automated testing scripts. The incumbent will also serve as backup for the build manager assisting with build and deployment activities. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and three years of progressively responsible professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analyst and development, and/or information security, one year of which was at the journey level; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Professional II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    Statewide travel is required.
    Working weekends and/or holidays is required.
    Applicants must be willing to work standby and carry the standby cellular phone for evening and weekend system troubleshooting.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience.
