The Position
The Chief, Environmental Programs coordinates, plans, directs, and manages environmental activities in the Division of Environmental Protection within the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources or in the Environmental Division within the Department of Transportation.
Professional Land Surveyors are supervisors who plan, organize, schedule and oversee the layout of survey projects for the section; discuss projects with representatives of all divisions within the department and other involved agencies to determine limits of the areas to be covered and the types of survey data needed. Incumbents design and devise measurement specifications and standards to accomplish measurements with the desired precision, accuracy, error control and adjustment; act as the primary analyst of both measurement data and boundary evidence and are required to give professional opinions or expert testimony regarding most probable ground locations.
This position is located within the Nevada Department of Transportation's (NDOT) Location Division in Las Vegas. This position is responsible for managing complex surveying activities including locating and monumenting public and private property corners and highway alignments; researching, advising, and testifying on right-of-way issues; performing precision surveys; geodesic and least-squares adjustments of survey networks; designing and providing survey control for aerial photo missions and terrestrial LiDAR used in engineering design; designing, installing, implementing, and utilizing high-accuracy survey networks; developing survey and mapping standards; checking map accuracy; acquiring and maintaining survey instruments and software. The Professional Land Surveyor is also responsible for managing subordinate land surveyors and technicians and aiding their professional development through hands-on and classroom instruction. This position works closely with NDOT's Right of Way, Construction, and Roadway Design divisions, other government agencies, the public, and personnel within the three sections of the Location division.     Licensure as a Professional Land Surveyor.
Special Notes
    Any person licensed as a Professional Land Surveyor in another State must become licensed in the State of Nevada within six months following the date of appointment as a condition of employment.
