The Position
Registered Nurses provide general or specialized professional nursing care in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
The Nurse I works under the supervision of the Correctional Nurse III and will consult with them on a regular basis. The incumbent will work in a trainee capacity to acquire the skills and experience in performing the duties of a Correctional Nurse. The Nurse will communicate plans with team members by attending nursing meetings and sharing with other team members; assist with team responsibilities and assignments as necessary; use patient problems to plan patient care addressing chief presenting problems incorporating the plan of nursing care into the multidisciplinary treatment plan; collect/document the medical/mental health conditions of patients using appropriate charting protocols; complete health assessments; collect statistical data, tracking current outpatient medications and patient outcome; review inmates to determine need for referrals or assessment; observe all safety practices at all times for the safely of self and others; follow Department accident reporting procedures; and comply with all OSHA guidelines. Incumbents will be working directly with inmates to carry out nursing care assignments, promote optimal health and patient independence, document problems requiring nursing interventions, document patient teaching needs and discharge planning, communicate care plans to other nurses to maintain continuity of care. **Please ensure your application reflects your current nursing license information. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse; OR an Interim Permit issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing.
Special Notes
    A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
    Per NRS 632.305, the Nevada State Board of Nursing may, after verifying that an applicant meets all licensure requirements, issue an Interim Permit authorizing the applicant to practice nursing until the results of their examination for licensure are received. The Interim Permit is for a period not to exceed 90 days and is immediately revoked if a candidate fails the examination. Passing the licensure examination is a requirement for continuing employment. Any person working under the authority of an Interim Permit may not represent himself or herself as a licensed registered nurse.
    Out of state applicants must have a temporary license issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing at the time of appointment.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
