Retirement Technicians calculate and process the purchase of service credit and repayment of withdrawn contributions, refunds and reimbursements; calculate benefits and assist clients with benefit related matters.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Under general supervision, Retirement Technicians within the Member and Retiree Services Division provide phone counseling services to members, retirees, and beneficiaries by identifying needs, analyzing accounts, determining eligibility, processing requests, and referring members to outside sources when necessary. Retirement Technicians are responsible for explaining PERS policies and statues as it pertains to membership, benefit estimate calculations, retirement, survivor rights, and account information. They must demonstrate a high knowledge of NRS Chapter 286 and PERS policies and procedures and be able to communicate this information effectively.
Some of the daily tasks include, receiving phone calls, answering questions, preparing automated or manual benefit estimate calculations that require computing mathematical equations, and preparing work for Retirement Examiners to review. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of office/clerical experience involving public contact, records maintenance, explaining and applying rules and regulations, and performing mathematical computations; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
