Information Technology (IT) Managers are responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the IT activities, in one or more IT specialization areas, of the State, a department, or a division.
Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
The State Controller's Office is recruiting for an IT Manager 2 to oversee the IT section with 10 IT staff, including Help Desk staff, programmers and a database manager. The IT section maintains the Advantage system (State's centralized financial system) and related applications. These systems require after hour and weekend on-call responsibility by certain IT staff. In addition, the IT section supports the daily and bi-weekly printing of the State's Accounts Payable and Payroll checks and the Office's Debt Collection IT applications. The IT Manager 2 will be responsible for the oversight of these functions as well as oversight of the Office's IT Security/ISO, the Controller's Office website and Help Desk for the Controller's Office staff. The IT Manager 2 will assist with the bi-annual budget process and ensure the IT section works within the annual budget. The IT Manager 2 will function as the project manager for all IT related projects and will assist the Contract Manager with all IT contracts from the RFP process through final invoicing. The IT Manager 2 position requires strong supervisory skills to build teamwork camaraderie within the IT section and with other Controller's Office staff. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and six years of progressively responsible professional IT experience which involved strategic planning, project management, quality assurance, and computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, or applications analysis and development. Three years of this experience must have been in a supervisory or project manager capacity; OR one year of experience as an IT Manager I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium, Inc (ISC2), Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) is equivalent to three years of experience.
Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) is equivalent to two years of experience.
Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC), GIAC Security Expert (GSE) is equivalent to two years of experience.
Other nationally recognized information security certifications may be substituted for up to one year of experience.

This position is subject to working nights, weekends and holidays.
Statewide travel may be required.
