Conservation Educators plan, organize, implement and evaluate educational programs designed to teach hunter and boating safety, environmental concepts and other wildlife related areas to the public, and participate in public relations activities.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The position will serve as the Urban Wildlife Coordinator and will be the first point of contact for the public in regards to questions, concerns, or reports about urban wildlife conflicts. In addition, the incumbent plans, organizes, implements, and conducts educational programs about the behaviors of wildlife, how to prevent human-wildlife conflicts, and what to do when conflicts arise. Inquiries or complaints about urban wildlife generally come from those who are unfamiliar with wildlife and are often concerned for their own or someone else's safety or for the animal itself. The position creates educational programs to address specific community needs regarding human-wildlife conflict; develops lesson plans and visual aid materials based on those needs; researches the specific subject matter of interest, evaluating programs presented elsewhere in the state or county where similar problems exist, identifying the information that best applies to the local situation and developing the appropriate format of sharing that information with the use of volunteers; and recruits, evaluates and trains volunteers for Urban Wildlife program. This position is being recruited at both the Conservation Educator 2 & 3 level.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
|
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education, journalism, communications, outdoor recreation/leadership/education, wildlife management, biology or related field and one year of professional experience in conservation education which included presenting educational programs, preparing educational plans, writing news releases, developing written materials for publication, and/or preparing and presenting radio and television broadcasts; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR one year of experience as a Conservation
