The Position
Social Services Program Specialists perform administrative and professional work in conjunction with the administration of statewide public assistance, medical assistance, or social services programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. This position is within the Division of Health Care Financing and Policy, Long Services and Supports (LTSS) Unit, located at the central office in Carson City. The position is an underfill for a Social Services Program Specialist 2 position and the incumbent will autoprogress to the next level in the series upon meeting the minimum qualifications for the position and upon appointing authority approval. LTSS supports individuals who need ongoing services due to age, physical or intellectual disability or chronic illness. This position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating activities associated with Nevada Medicaid's Transportation program, which includes emergency and non-emergency transportation (NET) services. Functions include developing, updating and ensuring that Transportation policy is in compliance with applicable federal regulations, state statutes and codes, and other regulations that relate to or impact the provision of emergency and/or non-emergency transportation for Nevada Medicaid recipients.
This position works closely with Nevada Medicaid's non-emergency transportation broker to assist in the resolution of recipient and/or provider transportation issues, NET sub-contracted providers, the Regional Transportation Commission, Medicaid's fiscal agent, and Medicaid providers, as well as participate in community and public relations activities. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and two years of paraprofessional experience which included providing social services, medical assistance programs services, or health care services to the public and required the application of regulations, laws, policies and procedures in making determinations; OR two years of experience as a Family Services Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
