The Position
Developmental Support Technicians supplement the work of qualified intellectual disabilities professionals and other professional staff in providing direct client care and support including participation in the formulation and implementation of treatment plans for clients.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action. This position is located within the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) of the Department of Health and Human Services Desert Regional Center (DRC), and will be located in Las Vegas, NV. ADSD provides an atmosphere of innovative thinking, teamwork, friendly co-workers, and promotes a positive work environment. The mission of the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) is to provide leadership and advocacy in the planning, development and delivery of a high quality, comprehensive support service system across the lifespan to allow all of Nevada's elders, children and adults with disabilities or special health care needs, to live independent, meaningful and dignified lives to the greatest extent possible.
Under the direction of a Social Work Supervisor, incumbent performs supervisory duties, managing home(s) for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Incumbent must possess organizational skills to assure requirements and regulations are followed by all subordinates. Incumbent will provide direct care to dual diagnosed individuals with conditions such as, Autism, Seizure Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, etc. in a 24-hour residential facility. Incumbent must have and maintain technician certification, CPR and a valid State of Nevada Driver's License. Experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities is a requirement of this position. Incumbent will be required to work a variety of shifts, weekends and holidays. **THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of experience, three of which were paraprofessional experience in a residential or community services program providing care, treatment, training and supervision for individuals with developmental disabilities. In addition, applicants must have attained and maintained valid certification as required by statute and regulation; OR four years of experience which included one year of experience as a Developmental Support Technician III in Nevada State service and valid certification as required by statute and regulation.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
    CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
    First aid certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    Incumbents are required to obtain and maintain certification as a mental health technician per NRS 433.279 as a condition of continuing employment.

The Examination
DEVELOPMENTAL SUPPORT TECH 4 (10.339) Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

Qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
1) Describe your experience, including the number of years, working with clients with developmental disabilities in a home setting.
2) Describe your supervisory or lead experience in facilities for developmentally disabled clients, including the number of years, in the following areas: 1) shift supervisor/lead in one home or facility, 2) home manager/supervisor of one or more homes or facilities, 3) other supervisory experience of four or more employees.
3) Describe your experience, including the number of years, in the following: 1) serving as a case manager in for developmentally disabled clients; 2) working with developmentally disabled clients in special activities (e.g., Special Olympics, summer camps, etc.); 3) working with non-developmentally disabled special needs population (e.g., blind/visually impaired, at-risk, deaf/hard-of-hearing, etc.).
