The Position
Facility Supervisors/Managers plan, organize and direct buildings and grounds maintenance, repair, custodial work, security functions, and fleet maintenance and supervise skilled and semi-skilled staff.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This position is with the Department of Administration, State Public Works Division, Buildings and Grounds section. This position is in Las Vegas and is under the supervision of the Facility Manager. Under the supervision of the Facility Manager, the incumbent will oversee and perform maintenance and preventative maintenance, minor projects, grounds and custodial contracts for all State facilities under the jurisdiction of the Division in Southern Nevada, in accordance with established policies and procedures, and with the position's scope of responsibility. The incumbent may travel and assist with projects or with training in Northern Nevada. This position has direct supervision of Maintenance Repair Specialists. This position will assist with special projects, and assignments as requested by the supervisor. The incumbent will also work with and supervise Inmates. The work week is Thursday through Monday, 7 am - 4 pm with Tuesday and Wednesday off. Preference will be given to those applicants with a Class A driver's license. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience in building construction or building maintenance; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Incumbents may be required to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays in addition to their normal work schedules and may be subject to call-back for response to emergencies.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
The Examination
If there are five or fewer qualified applicants, the exam will consist of an application evaluation. (This statement does not apply for Until Recruitment Needs are Satisfied (URS) announcements).
FACILITY SUPERVISOR 1 (09.612) Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

2) Describe your experience diagnosing and repairing systems and equipment malfunctions with the following: a) HVAC; b) Refrigeration; c) Boiler systems; d) Back-up power supplies; e) Light vehicle and equipment; f) Electrical systems; g) Plumbing systems; h) Security systems; i) Roofing systems; j) Power Tools; k) Structural fixtures.
3) Describe your experience inspecting work performed by contractors for adherence to plans and specifications.
4) Describe your experience interpreting blueprints and schematic drawings.
5) Describe your experience preparing work orders and reports of work that has been accomplished.
6) Describe your experience interpreting rules and regulations pertaining to occupational hazards, job safety, and building and fire codes.
