The Position
Public Information Officers manage the public relations and information program for an agency on a statewide basis; write media releases, newsletters, and informational brochures; produce audiovisual presentations and take photographs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is located in the Director's Office of the Nevada Department of Conservation & Natural Resources in Carson City. This position helps manage public relations and public information for the Department and its divisions and programs on a statewide basis. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating Department-wide interactions, media, and external stakeholders. Duties include drafting press releases, newsletters, public service announcements and informational brochures; as well as editing materials for printing, publication and distribution while ensuring compatibility and consistency with Department-wide missions, goals, and policies. The position is responsible for proactively working with the press by responding directly to media inquiries and strategically engaging press and stakeholders through building relationships and using social media to promote the Department's mission and goals. This position serves as a Department spokesperson and performs related duties as needed. The incumbent must develop and maintain a high degree of knowledge about the Department's full mission and scope, and work closely with each of the Department's divisions and programs. This position maintains effective working relationships with state and local government officials, media representatives, and other stakeholders. This position works closely with the Department Director, Deputy Directors, and Division Administrators on a daily basis. The incumbent must be a self-starter, strategic thinker and communicator, and maintain the highest level of professionalism and responsibility. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, English, public or community relations, communications or closely related field and two years of professional experience in public relations or public information including writing media releases and newsletters, preparing speeches and multimedia presentations; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    This position may require work on evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
    25% travel requirement.
    A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
