Licensed Practical Nurses provide general or psychiatric practical nursing care in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
The Department of Veterans Services, Southern Nevada State Veterans Home (SNSVH) is recruiting for a Licensed Practical Nurse 3, Infection Prevention and Control Assistant. The position is geographically located in Boulder City, Nevada. At the direction of the Infection Prevention and Control Nurse Manager this position will assist with reviewing practices directly related to resident care in order to identify whether the practices comply with established prevention and control procedures and policies based on recognized guidelines. This position will conduct infection prevention and control rounds; collect infection data from each unit and other departments; data entry for mandatory reporting to CDC and the state health department; facilitate Employee Health activities (coordinate pre-employment employee physicals, annual PPD/flu shot program and maintain Employee Health Records); maintain logs with infection surveillance; educate staff on prevention and control practices; investigate incidents of infection; conduct random observations; participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI); assist with Antibiotic Stewardship activities; monitor food safety, waste disposal and pest control; and other duties as assigned. A PPD skin test for tuberculosis as well as a physical is required upon appointment. The Southern Nevada State Veterans Home is a 24-hour skilled nursing facility. The incumbent may be scheduled to work shift work, weekends and/or holidays depending upon operational needs.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Nevada and three years of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse, two years of which were providing nursing care to inmates in a correctional setting or to individuals with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities.
Special Requirements
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
